What size is an Indian passport photo?

An Indian passport photo is 35 by 45 mm, which is 413 by 531 pixels at 300 DPI. Applications made at a Passport Seva Kendra normally use a photo captured at the centre, but you still need a correctly sized photo for the application form, for police verification papers and for the many other documents that ask for the same size.

Framing and background

The face should look straight at the camera, centred and filling most of the frame, on a plain white background with even lighting and no shadows. Reframe with the crop tool if your photo is not centred, then set the exact size here.

Other Indian documents use other sizes

Do not assume one photo fits every form. A PAN card photo is 2.5 by 3.5 cm, a different shape, and there is a PAN card photo page for it. Many college and exam forms ask for a stamp size photo, 2 by 2.5 cm, which is in the preset list on the resize page.

Uploading instead of printing

If you are uploading rather than printing, the portal sets its own pixel size and file size limits on the upload screen, and those figures differ from the print size and change from time to time, so follow what the form tells you.
